November 18 2013 update
SITES & PROJECTS
The old www.unclepasha.com, where you are now, has been reduced to a list of what's where. Below are my web projects, active, suspended, or dead, with brief descriptions.
Full contact info below
MY Current projects, or sites that pay my rent and are thus taken VERY seriously
- >>>> www.kandalaksha.su is were I presently put 2/3 of my effort. The aim is to open Kandalaksha and area to an independent and adventurous English-speaking traveller, and of course to make a few kopecks by offering my support and assistance in the capacity of trip organizer, fixer or whatever.
- >>>> St. Nina Church in Kandalaksha. Russian with English summary. Updated daily because that's my job. This is no joke, I'm an administrator of a church site. Eastern Orthodox, Moscow Patriarchate. The project in intended mostly for the Kandalaksha people but may be of interest to travellers who want to learn about Eastern Orthodoxy. I personally will push for the development of the English part of it.
- English and interview preparation is not exactly active but once in a while I do a few intensive English lessons, and whatever stuff on the subject comes to my attention it gets dumped in www.unclepasha.net
- www.dvorni.com is the site I've set up as a communication platform for owners apartments in the building where I own one. Russian.
- Kandalaksha Nature Reserve is under my technical administration, i.e. that it stays up and opens fast is my responsibility, but not its content except for English translations or summaries. Russian.
Old dog projects which may still be of use to a traveller to Russia but it looks they will be eventually phased out
Accommodation in Moscow: www.cheap-moscow.com. All offers and people behind them are personally known to me. Rooms start at $25/night, apartments at $70, occasionally even less but $100-120 on average. My compilation of info on Moscow is there too. I am not likely to maintain these sites so info there will be becoming less and less relevant. When I see visitors fall to near-zero these sites will be history. UNLESS YOU, OLESYA, WANT TO TAKE OVER, WHICH YOU SHOULD. AT ONE TIME CHEAP-MOSCOW.COM WAS CONSISTENTLY IN THE FIRST 10, AND IT SHOULD NOT TAKE MUCH TO GET IT BACK THERE. DON'T BE AN IDIOT, GRAB IT. Sane mature English speaking drivers capable of acting as guides, translators, and all-around assistants and fixers: www.moscowdrivers.net. Other people I regularly work with and can recommend. In fact an informal team able to meet just about any of your needs seems to have formed. Again, with my departure/escape from Moscow I am in no position to maintain this one, and it will eventually be phased out. SAME NOTE AS ABOVE. Small towns, mostly north from Moscow: www.staritsa.info. I amwas in a good position to organize trips, including camping trips around Gold Ring or anywhere north from Moscow, or horse-and-buggy trips in the Tver region, with or without auto support. See also my ex-project Horse Riding and the Dacha Experience still alive and well. The image to the left is based on one of these week-long immersion trips. DIMA, YOU ARE A NATURAL HEIR TO THIS ONE. Business support & personal services are at www.oldmanfriday.com. Errands, assignments, searches, compilations, identity checks and interviews. Even Russian bride search assistance. I may yet to try kick this one back to life if things get slow but with my arrival in Kandalaksha I've been busy just enough. So for the moment I will put this Business Support & Personal Services project aside.
Friends' sites on my server and under my technical administration
www.alexandra-goryashko.net is a personal and business site of Alexandra Goryashko, a historian and researcher fascinated with obscure arctic scientists who studies sea warms or snails while it was time to think of saving one's hide, which is the case during at lest 25% of Russia's history.
Olesya was my most formidable competitor, and she is and is likely to remain in Moscow. She will provide all traveller support, information, and fixer type services I did, and often far better. See www.russiangirlfriday.com
An now a message that poverty
make me inflict on you for crummy ten bucks a month:
Get Cash Now connects borrowers looking for personal loan online with direct lenders.
DEAD OR NEARLY SO
Uncle Misha's sleigh and carriage shop has been dead for years. I may be reviving it for a somewhat similar project by a sleigh and boat maker here in Kandalaksha.
www.mad-in-russia.com and www.mad-in-russia.net are now empry but was intended for either Russian Misery Travel(c) or for a collection of "only in Russia" stories and links. ANYBODY INTERESTED IN TAKING OVER?
www.kalugaregion.net I waiting for someone with an interest in Kaluga, which now is outside my range.
Things that I wanted to share but that don't belong anywhere else were to be dumped to www.unclepasha.com/wordpress/ but it is not active and will probably be deleted. My rants and raves appear to be of no interest to anyone. OK, understood, I too have changed the nature of my interest in people. Now my human brethren are of concern to me merely as suppliers of goods, services, or money. Good we don't live forever. Cancer is the logical end of biological life, and cynicism with a touch of despair is where human soul would go if not for death.
www.kandalaksha.staritsa.info has been replaced by www.kandalaksha.su. All the Kandalaksha and area info on my possession will go there.
Sageland Services Company. Most of site's content is closed to non-registered visitors. The project
iswas to research the forest industry here and in Karelia, and to assist in setting up a small operation. NEW PUBLIC SITE
The best way to get in touch with me is e-mail. Write to both firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com but the latter works better.
In emergency only you can call me at +7 921 155 5432 in Kandalaksha. My Moscow number +7 985 217 3241 is still active but please leave calling for situation when e-mail won't do.
My Moscow address, 115035 Ovchinnikovskaya nab. 8, kv. 508, remains valid but the actual one now and in the foreseeable future is 184041 Kandalaksha / Kirovskaya 23, kv. 17.
Please post anything you want to discuss in open air, especially if it is related to Russian travel and living, on my FORUM. No moderation, easy to use, no need to sign up, anything you want to discuss in open air is welcomed. It is a good place to read opinions on my services or to leave your own. If you are a competitor but have something unique and valuable to offer you may use my FORUM as long as you do that in a non-spammy manner.
You can also post questions or feedback as comments to any of my new WordPress-based sites.
I've discontinued using Skype because it attracts idle chatters, usually from India, Russia, or Turkey. I don't recall any real clients or those needing my assistance ever contacting me though Skype. But my Skype ID is Uncle_Pasha_2011.
I may be using Twitter to make announcements of no lasting significance. Don't know at this point if it will be practicable but here is my Twitter account.
