A few more from the "island" between the Moskva river and the canal from 2005  ==>>

An open-air market is often held either behind the Novokuznetskaya metro station, on Klementovsky pereulok, or on Polyanka, in front of the bookstore.

Operators of stalls in the open-air market are quick to offer what's needed, and at a price much more attractive than in big stores.

In my younger days babushkas selling their own produce dominated the market scene. A few of these types can still be found.

A self-serve restaurant. Considered cheap.

Note this building on Novokuznetskaya ulitsa, a few steps south from the Metro station. On the second floor you'll find a few technicians that will reattach a handle to your suitcase, make a set of keys, or weld the frame of your glasses.

Klementovky pereulik, another lane full of cafes and restaurants."Matreshka" is of course Russian, and "Rakhat Lukum" on the second floor, I think, Uzbek.

A standard shopping mall right behind where my apartment is.

Another view onto Pyatnitskaya. The small yellow one-story house is a Leo Tolstoy museum.

Pyatnitskaya is full of stores, cafes, and restaurants. The stretch of road we see has at least four of them on just one side. Plus a hardware store, an optics store, and a place where you can buy fancy German knives for probably x3 their price at home.

Bolshaya Ordynka street, near Metro Tretyakovskaya. The gallery is 200 yards to your left. By now we've strayed perhaps close to one whole mile from the pad where, I hope, you will be staying.

Several streets are supposed to be "pedestrians only".
